According to the Greek philosopher, Aristotle, there are three types of friendship. The first type of friendship is based on mere pleasure. It is a pleasure for a gambler to seek the company of other gamblers. A drunkard keeps company with drunkards. Friends of low taste get together and relish coarse themselves as friend, there is no strong bond of friendship among them. Though they eat, drink and enjoy together, the evil elements of suspicion, jealousy, ingratitude and selfishness ECT. Lie hidden among them knowingly   or unknowingly to them

My Favorite Novel

19 11 2007

My favorite novel is Madol Doowa. It was written by a well-known writer Mr. Martin Wickramasingha about half a century ago. I have read this novel several times as it is so much interesting. I am always keeping a copy of it in my bookshelf. I have never heard of any other novel which has become so much popular among children among children.

This book contains several episodes of interesting incidents. All these incidents are based on mischief of rural boyhood, the tendency of boys to behave in a playful  and annoying way.

The Game Cricket

19 11 2007

Cricket is the national game of the English hence its cradle is England. But now it has spread in many countries. Cricket has become the most popular game in Sri Lanka too.

When we walk on the streets of a town on a holiday, teenagers as well as small children

Are seen plying cricket with soft ball and a home-made bat in whatever the limited space available for them, very often creating a menace to the pedestrians. The same situation prevails everywhere in the country.

On the days of big international matches not only the boys and girls, but also the elders stop their work and sit in front of television enjoying it from the beginning to the end. On such days, streets are scarce of people and even three-wheeler taxis are very rare to be found on the streets. Hey all have become a kind of cricket conscious community and the names of great cricketers are enshrined in their hearts.
